There is a mandatory requirement for Indian citizens today to possess certain important documents as proofs of their identity and addresses. Some of these documents can be applied online.

One of the most important documents for tax purpose is the PAN (Permanent Account Number). A PAN is a unique identity and is a compulsory requirement for opening a new bank account. It involves lot of time and effort to look for authorized centers or PAN agents for getting the form and processing the application. This is where internet plays a big role because the main form for getting the PAN card, the form 49A can be downloaded from the government’s portal. These can then be filled and sent to the required authorities for further processing.

The latest development in the process of obtaining a passport was announced by the Government on 1st June 2013. The recent change introduced is that anybody who wants to apply for a passport must mandatorily make an online payment and request for an appointment with the passport officials at a specific date and time. This change has stabilized the whole process of issuing passports because officials meet people in a clearly phased out manner instead of the people queuing in front of the Passport Seva Kendra offices for meeting the officials.

Another proof of identity that is becoming popular all over the country is the Aadhar card. This is a unique identification card provided to the citizens and is considered as a strong evidence when the candidate applies for many other services. The Aadhar applications forms are readily available online on the government’s portal. These can then be filled and submitted at the authorized centers for further processing.

Though there are many other identity documents like the voter id, ration card, bank pass book etc., the PAN, passport and Aadhar card are the most important of them all. Online services for these have been introduced to save immense time and energy for the applicant as well as for the officials. Applying online for these services has many benefits, the most predominant of them being, ease of operations. Applicants don’t have to go hunting for the authorized agents and they don’t need to fret about the complexity of processes. The respective portals of the service providers mention all requirements and processes clearly.

Especially in the case of passports, the government’s decision to make it mandatory for taking an online appointment for a fee, has made the whole passport application process a breeze. Applicants can pay the required fee and choose their convenient date and time from the slots available for an appointment with the officials. Online application is the most preferred choice among citizens too as almost everybody has access to internet these days.
